Viktor Milanov: Direct Democracy in Bulgaria. Nr. 2016/1.

The paper provides in-depth analyses about the status of direct democracy in Bulgaria, it gives a historic overview and also dissects the legal framework which regulates the direct democratic instruments in the Balkan country. One of its’ main goals is to demonstrate the instruments and to focus on their particular legal characteristics. The paper also sums up the practice and impact of direct democracy in Bulgaria since 1989/1990 with special regard to the 2013 Referendum on the utilisation of nuclear energy and evaluates the regulation and practice of direct democracy in Bulgaria.
